"There's something therapeutic about nudity. Clothing is one of the
external things about a character. Take away the Gucci or Levi's and
we're all the same. But not when the
nanny is around. But I will with my wife and kids."
- Kevin Bacon speaking of his preference to be nude at his home.
Isn't nudism is a sin
against God and/or nature.
That's my favorite, since the
self-righteous "Radical Right" often attempts to use the "family
values" theme against us. In general, I've met better christian
families in nudist settings, than I have around those bozos. I'm a
conservative christian republican myself, but PLEASE don't put me in
the "Radical Right" category.
Out of curiosity a year or so ago, I
attended the hearings on a nudity ordinance for our county. The huge
crowd surprised the hell out of the commissioners. It had to be held
in a large auditorium in two sessions, with circus style press and
television coverage. An elderly woman protester from the other side
stopped me as I headed in and asked where I was seating. She wanted to
make sure she wasn't sitting with "those people" by accident and
couldn't tell one group from the other. I smiled and remarked how
right she was about that.
Ok, people have the right to believe
what they want, but they ought to get their facts straight. Read the
pages "The Bible, Society, and Nudity". The author has done an
excellent job of looking at nudity from the christian perspective. As
with any technical problem, Read The Fine Manual, before you call in
technical support.
I can't speak for what other
religions believe, but if you try to nail nudism down as a sin based
on the Bible, you're going to have to stretch things more than a
little. As to nudism being a sin against nature. That one is too
bizarre to figure.
Isn't nudism
erotic, leading people toward sin?
Doesn't wash. A day at a nude beach
or at a nudist resort is less erotic than a day at most beaches. This
is hard for many people to believe, but in my view, true. You're less
likely to be aroused when there isn't all that high fashion swimware
calling attention to every curve and shape. No bright colors, no
peek-a-boo coverage of those "forbidden zones". The attitude and dress
of textile (yeah, that's what we call them) beachgoers says "look at
me" . The atmosphere at a nudist club or beach says "talk to me".
Besides, at least for men, being
naked in front of others is naturally suppressive. The fear of calling
attention to oneself inappropriately keeps Mr. happy in check. Natural
social instinct works, as I'm sure it did long before "modern"
civilization started to think it knew better. I know it's hard to
believe, but it's no trick.
Doesn't nudism
attract perverts and undesirables?
In general, any activity marginalized
by the prevailing culture is likely to attract others who have been
marginalized for other reasons. But most nudists and their
establishments tend to be pretty conservative, if for no other reason
but to stand apart from other marginalized groups. People looking for
sex or titillation will not feel welcome.
Due to the family nature of most
resorts, clubs, and groups, anyone felt to be a threat to children is
going to be out the gate very quickly. Beyond that, the police will be
called, and the offender better hope they hurry. Charges will be the
least of his problems.
Short Reading About Nudist Culture
-Swimming Nude is Better
You don't have to fight the waves to keep your swimming suit on.
The water feels better against your bare skin than a wet swimming suit.
When you get out of the water, a swimming suit stays wet and feels bad.
When swimming nude, you won't get sand in your suit.
-Fewer Clothing and Laundry Hassles
Nudity reduces laundry costs.
Fewer washings reduce wear and fading, which in turn reduce how often you need to buy new clothes.
Eating nude considerably reduces the chances of spilled food staining and ruining your garments.
Deciding what to wear becomes a trivial decision instead of an often stressful decision.
Travelling for nude recreation cuts down on the amount of luggage that you need to carry.
Nude backpacking reduces the amount of gear you need to carry on your back.
-Sun Helps Clear Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disease that turns skin purple. Dermatologists have a treatment of sitting under a flourescent light to simulate the sun's ray. Why simulate? Go nude! The sun causes the body to produce dihydrxycholecalciferol. The more sun on the more skin, the better!
-Sleeping Nude is Better
By allowing air to travel freely over the entire body, the body is better able to distribute heat. This allows you to actually be warmer in the winter (under blankets of course) and cooler in the summer.
-Sunbathing Nude is Better
Sunbathing nude prevents those nasty tan lines and allows the entire body to benefit from the positive effects of the sun.
-Being nude can help prevent lyme disease.
Lyme disease is carried by the deer-tick. This little bug appears to bite when it lodges itself between clothing and skin. By being nude, they are much more easily brushed off before they can find a place to bite.
-Skinny dipping can help reduce rash from sea lice.
Sea lice, or jellyfish larvae stings cause a painful, itchy rash. The sea lice sting when they get trapped between your suit and skin. The obvious conclusion is to reduce your swimwear to reduce the chances of getting stung.
-Nudity may improve fertility
Being nude allows the male sex organs to better adapt to changing temperature. Tight, restrictive clothing inhibits the body's natural mechanism for doing so, which could cause reduced fertility.
